Ghost Hunter Jayne Castle 9780515141405 Books Reviews
- This is one of my favorite books by one of my favorite authors. I loaned my copy out and it was lost, so I had to get another copy to fill that hole. I am constantly rereading this series and couldn't bear to be without it any more. I love the action and adventure. The dust bunnies are great too. This is actually the 4th story set in Jayne Castle's world of Harmony, but only the 3rd one with dust bunnies. Bridal Jitters is an introductory novella, and After Dark is the first story with Lydia and Emmett, with After Glow also about them.. The first two can be found in the the book Harmony In this story we meet Cooper Boone and Elly St. Clair. Lydia and Emmett make a brief appearance as well. The road to love is not going well for Cooper and his intended bride Elly runs away. Things get even more mixed up from there. Rose, the dust bunny who adopts Elly after she has moved, helps things along in her own way. You will have to read the story to find out why Elly ran, why Cooper is back and what Rose has to do with any of it. I love that Cooper is known as "The Librarian" and not necessarily with fondness!
Dust bunnies do tend to steal the show, and I love how well they take center stage and add to the stories! I love the humor in stories that are written by Jayne Castle/Jayne Ann Krentz/Amanda Quick. She also has great characters who have to deal with a multitude of problems while falling in love. The dust bunnies add the perfect pitch to the Ghost Hunter/Harmony stories. I reread this series at least once a year, sometimes more. I love the way the stories make me feel. These stories have action, adventure, humor, steamy scenes and great characters. - GHOST HUNTER is the third book in the Harmony series. Harmony is a earth colony where the colonists were cut off from earth and have developed psychic powers that allow them to adapt to their environment. This is the story of Elly St. Clair who was engaged to Cooper Boone until she began to believe that Cooper only wanted to marry her because of her family connections to the ghost hunter guild in Aurora Springs. She walks out on Cooper and moves to the city of Cadence and opens a herbal remedies shop. Six months later, Cooper comes to Cadence to reclaim Elly. Cooper has a lot of secrets. Both Cooper and Elly have secrets about their psychic abilities as Harmony apparently has more psychic abilities than were recognized in prior books. Elly asks Cooper to help her find a friend and that immerses them and those around them into serious danger.
I loved Cooper in this book. He is a complex guy librarian, guild boss and a type of troubleshooter to the guilds. I liked how all those parts of him merged into one guy. He is also sweetly clueless about how to deal with Elly even though he is clearly in love with her. As to Elly, it was good to see her find some satisfaction in her own psychic power which she thinks is pretty useless at the beginning of the book. The interaction between Cooper and Elly is really funny because of his upbringing and her breaking out of her shell in Cadence.
Although this book is third in the series, it is not really necessary to have read the first two books. An introduction to Harmony is included at the beginning of this book that gives all the background information about the colony. Those who have read those two books will get to see Lydia and Emmett again since the book takes place on their turf.
Finally, for fans of the dust bunny companions, this one features a cute one known as Rose who is a glamour girl. - Very pleasent romance. Generally author writes formula romances with he/she alternating narratives. Good characters with good if predictable plots. What raises this series above the average is placing the story on an alien planet dominated by the ruins of an unknown race. Frankly the backdrop is potentially more interesting then the romance. Here we have Elly who fled her planned marriage to local guild of ghost hunters, (ghosts are psychotic creations that wonder the allien ruins), becoming involved in problems in her new city and her ghost hunter ex following hoping to get back together. Of course we have a bad guy and some murders to make things more interesting. We also have an alien pet called a dush bunny which features in all these books and is often more interesting then the main characters. All ends as predicted. Fun read if over priced at almost eight dollars.
- Krentz is always an excellent writer. Full character development, story continuity and witty and REAL character conversations. This book was no exception. If you like Romance, adventure or intrigue you will like this book because it has all three! The romance is tender and explicit without having to venture into less savory avenues. The adventure has you moving with the characters in all types of situations. The intrigue is skillfully done with hints and development that have you following the story and searching for clues. A truly remarkable book that I enjoyed greatly.
